Co-design a New Coffee Brand!
Jerry Chang is a flight attendant, a famous coffee blogger, and the founder of World Coffee Shops. Having served as a flight attendant for nearly 10 years, Chang has visited more than 40 countries, 100 cities, and 1,000 coffee shops worldwide. He has experienced the coffee flavor and culture created by different people and locations, and uses cameras to share his related textand photography works. This time, he invited popular online illustrator WHOSMiNG to design the logo of his “boarding coffee roasters”; and hired 3+2 Design Studio to design and the overall packaging of his brand.
The image of a suitcase was humorously incorporated into the packaging design, conveying the concept of “traveling around the world and drinking coffee.” By observing the checked luggage tag outside the luggage, one can deduce that the first stop of this journey is Vancouver (IATA airport code: YVR), the place where Chang grew up after immigrating to Canada. The cold,misty, aluminum-colored luggage is loaded with excitement and illustrates one’s eagerness to go on a trip. Stickers casually pasted on the luggage after each trip signify the means for one to reconnect to the places visited.
The World Coffee Shops aspires to introduce Vancouver to the world through its coffee, allowing customers to enjoy wonderful coffee-drinking experience while learning about the stories of foreign countries. Come have a sip!
在咖啡界中有一位既是空服員也是知名咖啡部落客,人稱『咖啡空少』的張智翔 Jerry,在擔任空少的 3000 多個日子的飛行人生,他走訪超過 40 幾個國家,100 多個城市,超過 1000 間的咖啡館,品嘗每個地方的人與事所造就的咖啡風味與文化,並透過鏡頭來分享文字和攝影作品,這次邀請網路人氣插畫家 WHOSMiNG 利用簡約線條設計『咖啡空少』咖啡品牌「Boarding coffee roasters」的 Logo 識別圖像 ;以及搭配 3+2 Design Studio 設計整體品牌包裝規劃,以及咖啡烘焙委託 饕選咖啡烘焙處理,透過各領域專業分工完成。
而這次包裝逗趣地將行李箱外型化為包裝的設計核心,藉由傳達「環遊世界喝咖啡」的品牌理念,透過外盒的托運行李標籤可以得知,這趟旅程首站是他移民後,成長生活了十幾年的地方溫哥華 Vancouver (機場代號 YVR)。以原始自然景觀、豐富歷史、多元人文而聞名的溫哥華,氣候宜人、和諧適居,「咖啡空少」要以味覺呈現溫哥華配方。
咖啡空少 Jerry : 「我對溫哥華印象,是入口即能感受鮮明的萊姆酸質,是沉澱至中段的李子、
烏梅與紅糖風味,是直到最後仍然在喉頭縈繞的杏仁及焦糖尾韻。」
在品嘗溫哥華配方的同時也不妨欣賞包裝的處處細節,還記得在疫情尚未肆虐全球的兩年前,凹凸紋理、冷冽霧鋁色澤的行李箱,裝載的是興奮雀躍與迫不及待的旅程,而每趟旅程在行李箱上看似隨手貼上的貼紙,卻時刻能將回憶的思緒連上,隨然現在全球的疫情還未落幕,但還是能讓「咖啡空少」將來自國外的故事,化為一趟咖啡風味的美好旅程,讓各位細細品嘗。
咖啡空少 / Jerry 張智翔:背景介紹
在經營社群媒體的同時,也還想深入了解咖啡的每一個環節,於是在台灣與美國取得 SCAA 美國精品咖啡協會咖啡師一級認證合格 ,SCAA & CQI Q Grader 咖啡品質鑑定師,SCAA 金杯技師認證合格,同時擔任過香港咖啡師大賽技術評審,馬來西亞咖啡師大賽感官評審。其中多達 20 項考試的咖啡品質鑑定師的測驗中,有項人稱魔鬼水的測驗,由酸、甜、鹹三種常見味道般組合,再透過味覺對由酸、甜、鹹物質調配出的水溶液做味道上的分辨和濃度上的判定。
溫哥華配方介紹:
在烘豆時選擇非洲及中南美洲數國的當季豆,藉此表現溫哥華多元融合的包容性。前段的萊姆酸質作為序曲,其明亮卻不至於太過奔放張揚的調性,相形理應酷寒的北國,因阿拉斯加暖流的經過,成為加拿大最溫暖的城市;彼時作為小留學生的我,隻身一人離鄉背井,不免辛苦,與之比擬是萊姆酸質帶出的幽微苦韻。隨著年歲增長,輕盈日漸沈穩,飽滿如烏梅,如紅糖漬過的李果,而後是杏仁氣息,以及回首皆是香甜的焦糖韻味。透過我的視角與饕選咖啡的詮釋,邀請大家用一杯咖啡的時間,跟著我們一起漫步溫哥華。
